I’LL MEET YOU THERE

I’LL MEET YOU THERE

Some paintings are created to capture a moment. Others are created to hold onto someone we wish we could have a little longer.

I’ll Meet You There was created in memory of Jeff, a beloved Goldendoodle whose passing has left an irreplaceable space in the Joneses family. When I began this piece, I wanted to create something that offered more than a beautiful landscape. I wanted to create a place where grief could soften into hope, where the pain of saying goodbye could be met with the comfort of imagining what might be waiting on the other side.

At the center of this painting is Jeff, making his way across a bridge toward a place filled with light, peace, and familiar faces. Looking back was important to me. I wanted to capture that connection between the life he shared with his family and the journey ahead of him. Even as he moves toward the unknown, there is still a sense of connection to the ones he loves and the life he leaves behind.

Waiting for Jeff on the other side are beloved dogs who have crossed the rainbow bridge before him. Each one represents a family member, a best friend, and a lifetime of memories that continue to matter long after their paws are no longer walking beside us.

Something that made this piece even more meaningful was that other pet owners graciously allowed me to include their own dogs who have passed away. Each of these dogs carries a story, a family who misses them, and a love that hasn’t disappeared. Being trusted to bring them into this painting is something I don’t take lightly. I wanted them to feel like they’re all together in this little corner of the world, waiting to welcome Jeff with familiar faces and open paws.

Among those waiting is my own golden retriever, Gordon Ramsay.

Including Gordon in this painting made it especially personal for me. Two years ago, when I lost him, I started painting as a way to make sure I would never forget him. I wanted to preserve the details of the dog who had given me so much love and left such a lasting mark on my life. What began as a way to navigate my own grief eventually became the foundation of my art business. In so many ways, Gordon is the reason Camryn McLelland Fine Art exists today.

To have him alongside these other beloved dogs feels like bringing several stories of love and loss together in one place. Although each family has their own memories and their own grief, there’s something comforting about imagining all of our dogs surrounded by friends, waiting for the ones who will join them someday.

The sky was painted with subtle hints of the rainbow, not as a bold statement, but as a quiet thread running through the atmosphere. I wanted the colors to feel as though they were naturally woven into the light, a gentle reference to the rainbow bridge without taking away from the softness of the landscape. Sometimes, the most meaningful things don’t need to announce themselves. They simply need to be there.

I know that no painting can take away the ache of losing a family member. Our dogs are there for the ordinary moments that end up meaning everything. They greet us at the door, follow us from room to room, make our houses feel like homes, and love us in a way that asks for so little in return. When they leave, we don’t just miss them. We miss the life we knew with them.

But I also believe that the love they leave behind is something we get to carry with us. It lives in the memories, in the little things that still remind us of them, and in the ways they change who we are long after they’re gone.

My hope is that I’ll Meet You There gives the Joneses family a place to return to when they miss Jeff. A reminder that his life mattered, that the love they shared with him will always be part of their story, and that he will never be forgotten.

I also hope this painting brings comfort to every family whose beloved dog is represented in it. Your trust in me to include a small piece of your story means more than you know. Although we may never have all of our dogs together in one place again here on earth, this painting allowed me to bring them together in a place filled with flowers, familiar faces, and the promise of a reunion.

And perhaps, when the time comes for us to imagine where our beloved companions go, we can picture them somewhere peaceful, surrounded by the ones who went before them, with familiar paws waiting just beyond the light.

Until then, we hold them here.

And somewhere beyond what we can see, I hope there is a place where every goodbye becomes a reunion.

I’ll meet you there.
