THE BEGINNING
I think every collection has a piece that tells you when it’s time to let it go.
For me, that piece was The Beginning.
When I started Gardens of Growth, I didn’t really know what the collection would become. I just knew I kept coming back to gardens, valleys, flowers, and the idea of something growing even when you couldn’t see what was happening beneath the surface.
The garden that grew in the valley became such a big part of that story for me. Every painting felt like another little piece of it. Different seasons, different colors, different stages of growth.
And now, with the entire collection sold out, it felt right for the final painting to be about what happens after the growing.
The wind.
I kept coming back to the movement in this painting. I loved the way the wind started moving through the flowers and across the landscape. It made the whole piece feel alive, but it also made me think about how sometimes you just need a fresh wind.
A fresh perspective.
A fresh season.
A reason to move forward.
I think I needed that when I was painting it.
There’s something really special to me about making a painting without knowing exactly what it means until you’re standing back from it. I started seeing this one less as an ending and more as a transition.
The Beginning is the last garden, but it isn't really about the garden ending.
It’s about leaving the valley with everything you grew there and letting the wind carry you somewhere new.
I love that it gets to close Gardens of Growth this way.
And because I don't normally release prints, this piece also felt like the right one to introduce as the first Print Club exclusive. The 5×7 release and the original are both available exclusively to Print Club members.
One collection is finished.
Now we begin again.
